Lucy is a six year Poodle that was sent to us by her regular veterinarian for not acting like herself and a sudden decrease in appetite. Dr. Andersen examined Lucy and determined she was significantly dehydrated with severe abdominal pain. In-house blood work revealed Lucy was positive for pancreatitis. Dr. Levitan performed an abdominal ultrasound which revealed the pancreatitis was very severe and there was free fluid in her belly.
Dr. Andersen immediately started supportive care for Lucy including fresh frozen plasma and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Hyperbaric Oxygen is particularly helpful in reducing pain, swelling of the pancreas and speeding recovery time. We are thrilled to say Lucy is back with her family! She is on a prescription diet and we expect her to continue to do well!
Unexpected Moral of the Story – Lucy’s family only paid a fraction of the cost. Trupanion was able to cover her expenses including the hyperbaric oxygen!
